China's Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council Delegation Visit Auckland

On 30 June 2002, the 7 member's delegation led by Ms. Li Haifeng, Vice Minister of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council of the People's Republic of China arrived in Auckland for a visit. At night, Ms. Liao Juhua, Acting Consul-General chaired a seminar followed by a buffet dinner for the delegation and more than 50 Chinese immigrant representatives from Auckland participated. 

Vice Minister Ms. Li delivered a speech beginning by thanking for the warm welcome and hospitality greeted to the delegation. She highly praised the efforts made by the overseas Chinese for further enhancing the exchange and friendship between China and New Zealand, and the contribution to the reform and opening up and the prosperity of their hometowns. She also briefed the present situation of China, the strategy of Developing the Western Region of China and the preferential policy given to the overseas Chinese students who wish to start an undertaking in China. Ms. Li welcomed the overseas Chinese to go sightseeing in China, finding partners and suitable projects for investment, so that they could continue to make greater contribution to the ancestral country. In warm and harmonious atmosphere, the delegation answered the questions raised by the attenders. 

 On 1 July, the Auckland Chinese Community Center hosted a welcoming banquet for the delegation. On 2 July, the delegation left Auckland, drawing a successful conclusion to the visit of friendship to New Zealand.
