Sixth cross-Strait forum opens in Guangzhou

BEIJING, July 10 (Xinhuanet) -- The sixth cross-Strait economic, trade and cultural forum has officially opened in Guangzhou, capital of south China's Guangdong Province.

Several speeches were delivered by notable attendees including Jia Qinglin, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, and Wu Poh-Hsiung, honorary chairman of the Kuomintang Party.

Other speakers included Wang Yi, head of the Taiwan Work Office of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, and Lin Feng-Cheng, Vice chairman of the Kuomintang Party.

The Forum, a regular get together between the Kuomintang Party and the Communist Party of China, will concentrate on cross-Strait cooperation in green energy, conservation and environmental protection.

The two-day event will include a cultural and educational symposium, which will review the implementation of joint proposals put forward at last year's forum. More than 400 people from Taiwan and the mainland will be attending this year's forum.
