Q-T Highway to be Safer and Smoother

The alteration and improving works upon the Golmud-Lhasa section of Qinghai-Tibet Highway are going smoothly under joint efforts of all the staff. This alteration project, as one of the 10 key construction projects in TAR was started in 2008.

It is reported that the alteration and improving works will cover a section measuring 538.098 kilometers, aiming to repair and renovate those damages caused upon the Golmud-Lhasa section and make the highway safer and smoother. 370 million Yuan (occupying 42% of the total amount according to the contract) has been invested in the project by June 30th of 2009.

As the main highway to Tibet, Qinghai-Tibet Highway is the busiest highway in Tibet. Since the beginning of last year, the reconstruction of Golmud-Lhasa section kicked off and the main task is to restore the road sections damaged during the construction of Qinghai-Tibet Railway and improve the security and comfort for drivers on the way.
